What do we do?

B-SIDE EMPIRE supports and promotes university student artists by showcasing their artwork on this website and by running showcase events, and parties… of course! We also work with our artists to produce designs, campaigns, content and products in all the below media forms for clients — basically, we like to get students in touch with people in the creative industries so they can pursue their art at a professional level.

We accept submissions of the following forms of art (but not limited to: if you have redefined art and have proof, then by all means send it in. No pornography please):

Why do we do this?

The B-SIDE EMPIRE co-founders encountered many a student at University, who for whatever reason, were unable to pursue their artistic talents and abilities to a satisfactory level while studying. As a result, during a 3am Skype conversation the night before an essay deadline, B-SIDE EMPIRE was born. (It may also have resulted from an overdose of caffeine, lack of sleep, and essay procrastination.)

Who are we aimed at?

YOU.

Whether you’re a university student, a child, a grandma, a wombat, or Alien, it doesn’t matter because B-SIDE EMPIRE is for everyone and anyone who can appreciate art in all its forms. We’re hoping that amongst our website and event visitors that some key creative industry people are hanging around to help us take our talented ‘B-Side’r students to the next level. We’re here to present to all you art enthusiasts the young, fresh, emerging talent of the next generation. Watch out Mario Testino! All submissions go through a screening process: we can’t publish everything, unfortunately, there are only two of us! So we have to be a bit selective but don’t let that deter you from sending us your work.

Where did our name come from?

The question we’re often asked by people is “What does B-Side Empire mean?” Well, to tell you the truth it was like trying to name a band… after two hours of sitting in our local Wetherspoons thinking of company names it finally came to us. ‘B-Side’ is the otherside of a tape, the side that sometimes people don’t really listen to, the side that’s always considered “rare”, even though they most often hold the most amazing songs… catching my drift? So the ‘B-Side’ student is the other side of a student – the talented, creative, artistic side that that we want to showcase to the world. And Empire? That’s self-explanatory enough, right? Think Spartans, spears, and golden armour.
